Replace Silver Fillings

The terms “silver filling” and “amalgam” are used interchangeably to describe the silver-colored metal fillings you often see in people’s mouths. Amalgam is a restorative dental material that is a mixture of mercury, silver, tin, copper, and other trace metals. Although dental amalgam is a widely used filling material, our practice has been providing high quality dental restorations without using silver amalgam fillings for nearly 40 years. While the American Dental Association and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) consider mercury-containing amalgam to be a safe and durable dental material, we understand that many patients are concerned with having mercury in their mouths and want to have their silver amalgam fillings removed. Other patients do not like the appearance of their silver amalgam fillings and want them removed for cosmetic reasons. Since mercury vapor is released during the placement and removal of dental amalgam, we offer an optional program that protects patients and staff during silver amalgam filling removal. By following the highest standards for amalgam removal set forth by the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT), we minimize potential absorption of mercury during amalgam removal thereby reducing mercury exposure to our patients and staff. We also offer several restorative alternatives to silver amalgam fillings.
